Skiing in North Carolina

We booked a ski vacation over the long president's day weekend and headed to North Carolina with the kid's in tow. It is about a five hour drive from Nashville and was really beautiful seeing all the mountains as we drove.  The girls were great during the car ride, of course anything is better than the drive up to Mass last summer!! We had a bit of a detour on our way up to our cabin, our gps had us about 2 miles away until we hit a road that was closed...not a problem the gps will just give us an alternate route...WRONG.. we literally were four wheeling on huge boulders until we stopped a man on tractor ( seriously!) and asked for a better route.  After we got in we started a nice fire and got ready for the next day. Our plan was for Liv to do the ski school and Maddie go into the nursery on the mountain. The first issue was that the ski school was full so that meant we had to teach Liv how to ski, not a huge deal because I have been skiing since I was young but it was a bummer because Steve and I ended up skiing separately all morning. Liv did really well, we started out learning out to plow and make a slice of pizza ( I googled it!) we went down the bunny trail a few times but the amount of kids that were there it was tough to maneuver around. I had bought a ski-buddy (ski leash for kids) so we headed up on a regular lift and Liv did great getting on and off! We went down this hill a few times with lots of falls but overall a good first time skiing. Meanwhile Steve got the call from the Nursery that Maddie was hysterical :( When I dropped her off she waved to me and said bye-bye and started playing with toys, which totally surprised me, but I was glad she did good with the drop off. By the time we all met up again at the mountain Steve had a crying Maddie and I had a crying Liv, so we headed back to our lodge. The girls both took a nice nap and then we headed to the pool. Liv has been taking swim lessons and has been doing great so she loved showing off all of her swim moves to us. Maddie had no fear and literally would jump off in the deep end!! We were all exhausted and asleep by 8 pm that night! Our second day we headed to another mountain called Sugar mountain and put both girls in the nursery on the mountain so we could ski together. The girls were fine the whole time (probably because Liv was there with Maddie to calm her down). We got some great runs in and had a wonderful day skiing and kid free!! We headed home early the next morning and cannot wait to book our trip for next year!

I miss the days of just traveling with a carry-on...
