The Truth about Preschool!

      After many discussions….and I am talking well over 6 months of debate, we have decided that Olivia will go to preschool this fall. I am a firm believer in children developing social skills away from their parent’s and think that it can only help her be more prepared for kindergarten.  I am not going to lie, I already start to sweat and loose my breath when I think about the day that I have to leave her, and I know for a fact Steve would be perfectly happy if she stayed home for the rest of her life (seriously).  However, I also think about venturing out to the grocery store with just the new baby, vacuuming without having to hold Liv at the same time (defiantly never thought I would have to do that as a parent!), or any other necessities that get put to the back burner when you have a toddler home with you. This brings me to my next topic, when did preschools become harder to get into than Harvard!?!  Clearly Steve and I had no idea what we were even getting into when we thought we would look at a few preschools, and sign up for the one we liked best. How wrong were we……Let’s just say one local preschool has their sign-up day in March and parents SLEEP IN THEIR CAR the night before in order to get their child into this school. When I brought this up to Steve he gave me the look that even playing the pregnancy card, he would not sleep in the car.  I feel like I am applying to college all over again. Numerous applications want to know what special skills your child has, and all I can think is, well she can sing the Dora song and is pretty good at screaming “Mine!” whenever a child even glances at something she has.  Seriously the kid is two years old, what kind of answer are they looking for here!!  However the idea of her learning another language, or being able to start a musical instrument early, has made me a tad bit of  snob when looking at preschools. So begins our search of the next step in Olivia’s life, let’s just hope we can all make it to the fall! J
